LETTERS TO THE EDITOR | VIRGIN TRAINS IS NOT IMPLEMENTING ESTABLISHED SAFETY MEASURES

THERE ARE TWO SAFETY MEASURES THAT COULD MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE FOR VIRGIN TRAINS USA, states Tom Gruber in the TC Palm's Sept. 21 Letters to the Editor. These two safety measures include fencing and channelized crossings.

"The point is, for a project that claims to be safety conscious, Virgin Trains clearly has avoided two design practices that are being used elsewhere in situations, not nearly as dangerous as Virgin Trains, that could make this a safer project and clearly could save lives," Gruber comments.

LOCAL LEGISLATORS WANT TO REGULATE VIRGIN TRAINS

STATE SENATOR DEBBIE MAYFIELD PLANS TO PUSH BILL FOR INCREASED SAFETY REGULATIONS FOR HIGHER-SPEED PASSENGER RAILROADS. Mayfield plans to submit her proposal later this month.

This bill follows the findings in the 2018 Office of Program Policy and Government Accountability report, which reported that more deaths and injuries occur along the Florida passenger-rails lines than the national average.
