TREASURE COAST NEWSPAPERS EDITORIAL: RELIEF FROM RAIL FREIGHT TRAFFIC? PLEASE!

HOPE LIVES FOR RESIDENTS ALONG THE TREASURE COAST - A NEW PROPOSED PROJECT WOULD RELOCATE 80% OF CURRENT FREIGHT TRAFFIC TO A NEW RAIL LINE TO THE WEST. This project would expand 72 miles of U.S. 27 to six lanes and add railroad tracks along the highway and would redirect freight traffic through the center of the state and ease congestion on the Florida East Coast Railway tracks.

Although not perfect, this is an ideal candidate for federal funding and it would provide relief for communities south of Fort Pierce and too enticing to ignore.
