Treasure Coast residents opposed to the All Aboard Florida/Brightline passenger rail project have had a nagging suspicion from the beginning.

They have suspected, understandably, that state and federal agencies with some degree of oversight have been predisposed to approve the Miami-to-Orlando project.

FLORIDA REPS. PUSH FOR BILL TO ESTABLISH SAFETY STANDARDS FOR BRIGHTLINE PASSENGER TRAINS AND TO PROTECT FLORIDIAN RESIDENTS

Florida Reps. and Senator Debbie Mayfield push to create the Floriday High-Speed Passenger Rail Safety Act. This would protect Floridian residents from accidents and injuries as well as establish safety standards for the Brightline trains that All Aboard Florida (AFF) have not clarified as of yet in their project proposal.

BREAKING NEWS - TREASURE COAST LEGISLATORS FIGHT BACK

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Treasure Coast lawmakers, concerned about a passenger railroad service that will travel through their districts, want high-speed operators to pay for safety upgrades.

Targeted at All Aboard Florida's Brightline service, which is planned to eventually link Miami and Orlando, the measure (SB 386) filed Tuesday also would give the Florida Department of Transportation regulatory authority over high-speed rail where not preempted by federal regulations.

THE FIGHT AGAINST BRIGHTLINE PASSENGER CONTINUES

Martin County continues the fight against rail expansion such as the All Aboard Florida's proposed passenger rail project. They have had an opportunity to meet with the Editorial Board of Treasure Coast Newspapers to proactively educate the public about their and the activities of Brightline. They have also reserched an alternative existing western train route that has yet to be submitted for consideration.
