A precautionary evacuation around the area south of Galena, Illinois was underway around 5 p.m. after several cars of a BNSF Railway Train derailed.
Initial reports indicated that five cars in a 105 car train derailed Thursday, March 5, 2015 around 1:20 p.m.
103 of the 105 cars were loaded with crude oil, according to a statement from the BNSF Railway. The other two cars were buffer cars loaded with sand.
The cause of the derailment, which happened near Ferry Landing, was unknown, according to BNSF’s statement.
