TALLAHASSEE - Gov. Rick Scott on Friday announced three appointments to the Florida Development Finance Corp.

The quasi-governmental agency in August agreed to issue $1.75 billion in tax-free bonds to All Aboard Florida, but later discovered that its board members’ terms had expired.

FEAR OF OIL TRAIN RISKS ON THE RISE

MISSOULIAN.COM
Exploding oil trains are a hot topic in the United States and Canada, spurred by a recent spate of accidents and a prediction by the U.S. Department of Transportation last year that there are many more to come – 10 a year over the next two decades.

FLORIDA STYLE HIGH SPEED RAIL IS A DEATH WISH

"Even the worst rail systems in Europe are superior to the Amtrak-dominated American railroad system," reports the National Review. "Amtrak's passengers get injured 58 times as often as those on French railroads."

THANK YOU POSEY FOR FIGHTING TO REFORM THE FEDERAL RAIL LOAN PROCESS

The federal government is viewed by many on the Treasure Coast as an enabler of the All Aboard Florida project.

The very notion the federal government may provide a loan for the rail project is offensive to many Treasure Coast residents.

We are extremely pleased to announce that despite the drizzle and mist on a recent Saturday morning, it cleared off enough for the show to go on and it was like a scene from the Costner film "Field of Dreams" when he heard, "build it, they will come."

DOT: RAIL INSURANCE IS NOT ADEQUATE FOR OIL TRAIN ACCIDENTS

POLITICO

Most freight railroad insurance policies couldn’t begin to cover damage from a moderate oil train accident, much less a major disaster. And the Department of Transportation’s own database of oil train incidents is flawed because some railroads and shippers provide incomplete information that far understates property damage.

DERAILED BNSF TRAIN STILL BURNING AS SECOND CRASH CATCHES FIRE

A Canadian National Railway Co. train carrying crude oil derailed and caught fire in northern Ontario, while a BNSF Railway Co. train carrying Bakken oil for Mercuria Energy Group Ltd. continued to burn in rural Illinois two days after it jumped the tracks.

Canadian National said on its website that the train derailed around 2:46 a.m. Saturday near Gogama, about 373 miles (600 kilometers) north of Toronto, with no injuries reported. Meanwhile, five of the BNSF train’s 105 cars remained on fire after Thursday’s derailment.

WHAT'S IN ALL ALL ABOARD FLORIDA'S BRIGHT NEW NAME - MORE OF THE SAME

Rich Campbell TCPalm
I’ve rebranded myself twice. So I understand All Aboard Florida possibly renaming its passenger rail service. I am a junior and my father’s name is Dick Campbell. Until about age 6 my parents called me “Little Dickie.” Too emasculating. Besides, who wants to be a “little” anything?

For several years, I went by “Richard.” Too formal. At least for me.

SO MAYBE ALL ABOARD FLORIDA IS ALL ABOARD GAMBLERS

This might be the missing piece, the one that makes the puzzle clear to see.
I’m talking about the “Florida Gaming Control Act of 2015,” a bill proposed in Tallahassee this week that would authorize two “destination resort” casinos in South Florida.

What do I see from this piece? All Aboard Florida. For months now, we’ve been encouraged to imagine that millions of Floridians and tourists will be clamoring to ride a new passenger rail service that would connect South Florida to Orlando.

TRAIN CARRYING OIL DERAILS IN GALENA ILLINOIS

A precautionary evacuation around the area south of Galena, Illinois was underway around 5 p.m. after several cars of a BNSF Railway Train derailed.

Initial reports indicated that five cars in a 105 car train derailed Thursday, March 5, 2015 around 1:20 p.m.

103 of the 105 cars were loaded with crude oil, according to a statement from the BNSF Railway.  The other two cars were buffer cars loaded with sand.

The cause of the derailment, which happened near Ferry Landing, was unknown, according to BNSF’s statement.

All Aboard Florida could be changing its name to Bright Line.

The high-speed rail company has trademarked the names Bright, Bright Line and Bright Rail, according to U.S. Patent and Trademark Office records.

But All Aboard Florida is remaining mum about its plans.

A spokeswoman didn’t deny the controversial railroad would be rebranded, but wouldn’t confirm it, indicating only that it’s too soon for the company to say.
