CALL TO ACTION!!
THIS IS BIG! The Florida Development Finance Corporation decided to accept the county’s request to move their board meeting to approve the Private Activity Bonds to a closer venue – Orlando BUT, they also moved the date up to MARCH 6 at 2:30 pm!
We need EVERYONE to show up for this meeting – we need everyone to be prepared to speak or give moral support to those who do. Members of the public get 3 minutes each to speak to the Board. Published agenda is linked here.
We want to create a “whiteout!"
Wear white shirts/tops and we’ll have black ribbon pins for you to wear in honor of those who’ve perished on the tracks. We’ll be a sea of white in the meeting room.
We are arranging for transportation for those who don’t want to carpool. Our friends at CATT are arranging for buses to leave from Martin County and we’re planning a smaller bus, holds 18, to leave from Vero Beach. The CATT bus will stop in Vero Beach if we need more seats.
We need you to let us know if you want to take one of the buses by this Saturday evening. Request for more information on the CATT and Vero buses via email (susanm@ersmd.com) or watch the CATT Facebook page for updates.
We need you to get with your friends and neighbors and rally the troops. In addition to letting the FDFC board know your opinion, this will be important for media purposes and our future efforts throughout the state. Our numbers will send a message!
Regardless of whether you’re planning to take a bus or drive, let me know how many of you are going so we have some idea of our total numbers. Please send me an email (susanm@ersmd.com) with a head count of your group. Make a day of it – we’ll find some good restaurants for lunch near the meeting site!
Our comments will focus on safety issues and financing issues. I’ll send around some talking points for you to consider using for your 3-minute comments – however, I find most people do the best just speaking from the heart.
If you’ve ever wondered how you can help – this is your opportunity! I can’t wait to see all of you in Orlando with your white on!
Sincerely,
Susan Mehiel
