The private passenger high-speed train service from West Palm Beach to Orlando is 2.5 years behind its initial date. They have stated that the first section running between West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale will open in late July, while the link to Miami will open by this fall.
The Orlando leg has run into numerous difficulties, including turmoil over adding stops in Melbourne, Port Canaveral, Cocoa Beach and Kennedy Space Center. Not adding stops would cause Port Canaveral to lose cruise passengers to South Florida cruise ports, which would be easily accessible from nearby train stations.
They also need to find financing since the Department of Transportation had changed the bond approval. This change in approval leans on the lawsuits filed by Martin and Indian River counties and Mayfield's incredible bill that would place safety measures in place for this high-speed train.
